Tin Work became a necessity in New Mexico in the early 1800's when the early Spanish blacksmiths begin making tinwork sconces for lighting out of tin cans brought in through the Santa Fe Trail.  At the turn of the century, Spanish tinsmiths began to make more decortive tinwork to meet the demand of the time.  Tinwork can be seen in prominent and historic buildings in New Mexico
